Omar Sy has lived in Los Angeles since 2012, a choice that made some people cringe, but that the actor absolutely does not regret.

And his decision was easy to make: after the success of the film

Intouchables

, he needed peace of mind for him, but especially for his children.

“I went from Omar and Fred to Omar Sy.

I wondered what I was going to be able to do with this new status.

I needed to protect my kids.

To protect me.

So, I put some distance, “said Omar Sy to the magazine Psychologies.

The good choice

At that time, in fact, if the actor could hardly leave his home without being recognized in France, this was not the case in the United States.

It is therefore quite naturally that he found his "softer notoriety" to live on the other side of the Atlantic.

Initially, Omar Sy planned to spend a year there with his wife, Hélène, and their four children, Selly, Sabah, Tidiane and Alhadji.

Twelve months that turned into ten years and a fifth child, Amani-Nour, born in 2017.

“It worked much better than we imagined.

There were job opportunities, we felt good there, we found a form of relief there compared to what we had just experienced in France, ”he adds.

It is clear that his career took off even more once he settled in California.

Omar Sy notably played in

X-Men: Days of Future Past , established himself in the

Jurassic World

franchise

, shot under the direction of Ron Howard in

Inferno

, and all this while continuing his career in France.

Not to mention the

Lupine

series for Netflix, which is one of the platform's biggest successes, both in France and internationally.

Omar Sy was also included in TIME magazine's 100 Most Influential People list last year.

He will be showing

Tirailleurs

on January 3, a film by Mathieu Vadepied which he co-produced.
