In an interview with "Psychologies Magazine", Omar Sy talks about the reasons for his departure to the United States.
The French actor moved to California with his family more than ten years ago.
He had however promised himself to "come back" after "a year spent in the sun".
Omar Sy thought he was tasting the American dream just for a year.
The actor had promised himself: he would return to France after "a year spent in the sun".
It was in 2012, when he wanted to take a break after the end of
the Emissions Service Department.
Omar Sy finally completely fell in love with California, to the point of settling there permanently with his wife and their five children.
"There was a form of appeasement in relation to France"
"It worked much better than we imagined. There were job opportunities, we felt good there, we found a form of appeasement there compared to what we had just experienced in France", he confides this Thursday, December 22 in the columns of
Psychologies Magazine.
Omar Sy found life simpler in the United States, where his "notoriety is sweeter there".
After the dazzling success of the film
Intouchables,
released in 2011, Omar Sy became a star.
"I needed to protect my kids"
"I went from Omar and Fred (Testot, editor's note) to Omar Sy. I wondered what I was going to be able to do with this new status. I needed to protect my kids. To protect myself. So , I put some distance”, he explains.
The actor made this decision with his wife Hélène Sy, who has shared his life for 25 years.
She too wanted their children to grow up in peace and quiet.
Omar Sy had already broached this subject in an interview with
La Nouvelle République
, in February 2019. “It was above all so that my children could grow up with an anonymous father… I did not have the keys to raise and protect them in a country where I was a famous person," he said.
Omar Sy absolutely does not regret having left France and found his balance across the Atlantic.
“How not to be grateful for life when you live such things?”, he declared last June on the set of
