Regarding compensation for the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident, residents who evacuated to various places demanded compensation from the government and TEPCO in a class action lawsuit. The decision to recognize the amount was finalized, and on the 20th, the examination committee compiled new guidelines that greatly expanded the scope of compensation.

Regarding this matter, Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Nagaoka met with President Kobayakawa of Tokyo Electric Power Company and requested prompt and appropriate compensation in consideration of the feelings of the victims.

In addition, although not subject to the guidelines, the ruling party and other parties have requested that residents who have suffered damage in the southern region of Fukushima Prefecture and Marumori Town in Miyagi Prefecture be subject to compensation.

After the meeting, President Kobayakawa announced a policy to show concrete details such as the target of compensation, the amount of compensation, and how to proceed with payment as TEPCO within the next month.

According to TEPCO, at least 1.48 million residents are expected to be subject to compensation due to new guidelines and requests from the government and ruling parties.

President Kobayakawa said, "I would like to go back to the basics of compensating as long as there is damage and respond sincerely."
