On the 18th, the Tokaido Shinkansen stopped running for about 4 hours due to a broken overhead wire, and JR Tokai announced that the metal fitting that suspended the overhead wire broke and touched another overhead wire, causing a short circuit. .

The company says that it will carry out emergency inspections of locations with the same equipment.

On the 18th, the Tokaido Shinkansen suspended operation in a wide range of up and down lines, such as between Tokyo Station and Shin-Osaka Station, for about 4 hours due to a disconnection of overhead wires, affecting 110,000 people.

Regarding this trouble, JR Tokai announced on the 20th that it was believed that the cause of the disconnection was that the metal fitting that suspended the overhead wire broke and touched another overhead wire, causing a short circuit.

The overhead wire that caused the problem was installed in 2016, and when it was inspected on the 12th of this month, there was no abnormality.

In response to this, JR Tokai has begun emergency inspections on the night of the 19th for 56 locations on the Tokaido Shinkansen that have the same equipment as the overhead line where the problem occurred, and plans to complete it by the end of the year.

On the other hand, the cause of the broken metal fittings is still unknown, so we would like to investigate the cause and take drastic measures.
