A British prison was preparing for the doomsday with an arsenal of weapons

A British court has sentenced a man who was preparing for the Day of Judgment to store weapons, ammunition and canned food under the floorboards of his house.

Barney Pottivent, a father of five, built a personal arsenal of 17 firearms, with an ample amount of ammunition, along with knives and a bow and arrow, and stashed it all in a secret room in his home.

The police raided his home, apparently after receiving a tip-off from his wife.

Upon searching the house, the police report said Potevent had rearranged his house in preparation for what they guessed would be constant battles with them, in particular due to the complete blackout of the house and the weapons and gear in it.

But Judge Mark Weekes at Canterbury Crown Court rejected the police allegations and found that Potevent had no plans to lay siege or hide from the police.

Instead, the judge expresses his belief that the man belongs to a fringe society that believes the end of the world is imminent and that they should prepare for the social upheaval they say will follow.

And that the man's plans were to achieve self-sufficiency when this happened.

Besides the weapons, the police found a Confederate flag and rugs draped in the windows leaving the home in darkness.

And the flag seemed closely linked to the racism in the country's pre-Civil War deep South, associated with slavery.

It also turns out that Botevint was an avid hunter who gathered weapons to hunt and hunt game.

Judge Weeks deemed him not a danger to society, but criticized him for lying about how he had obtained an illegal gun, one of his many weapons, which he hid behind his refrigerator.

Pativent pleaded guilty to possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of a firearm without a certificate, and possession of ammunition without a certificate.

Therefore, the judge sentenced Potevent to five years and 10 months in prison for possession of these weapons.

"This type of weapon is often used by criminals, and when criminals use it, it is a particularly dangerous weapon," he said in his ruling.
