The Abu Dhabi Festival supports the production of the film “The Millstone”, by Emirati writer and film director Nasser Al Dhaheri, on the biography of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, which was shown for the first time yesterday in the “Fox” cinema hall in the Galleria Mall on Al Maryah Island.

Hoda Ibrahim Al-Khamis, founder of the Abu Dhabi Group for Culture and Arts, founder and artistic director of the Abu Dhabi Festival, said, “Believing in the importance of our role since the founding of the Abu Dhabi Group for Culture and Arts nearly 30 years ago, in enabling the Emirati film industry, supporting its creators, and strengthening the Emirati presence globally, we cooperated with the writer and media person. And director Nasser Al-Dhaheri, in the production of his exceptional film, is our contribution to documenting the march of the establishment and renaissance of the Emirates, through the eyes of its creators.

The film “The Millstone” and its theme “Al-Ain.. the first to see dreams”, over the course of an hour and a half, deals with the biography of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, since he took over the rule of Al-Ain in 1946, and his wise management of the affairs of the region. , in difficult economic, health and educational conditions, and how he promoted the eastern region of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, organized its affairs, provided free water to the residents and their farms, brought doctors and teachers from abroad, directed the construction of the local market and others.Director Nasser Al-Dhaheri said, “Work on the production of the film took two years, between writing, preparation, preparation, and archival research, in addition to filming with 40 personalities who knew the late Sheikh Zayed closely, during his years of life and periods of his rule, and were related to his diary and its details in inside and outside, especially humanitarian matters.” He added, “The film documents the life of Sheikh Zayed for future generations, to be aware of the challenges that faced the founding fathers in their past lives, and how that exceptional historical man was destined to perform his miracle between the desert and the sea, so that the United Arab Emirates today is in ranks among developed countries, enjoying prosperity, stability and a good international reputation.

The film, in which more than 50 people from different countries of the world participated, including France, the Netherlands, Morocco, Ukraine, Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, Lithuania and Tunisia, was translated into English, French and Spanish to be shown around the world and in many international film festivals.

The film was produced by writer and film director Nasser Al Dhaheri, sponsored by the Archives and the National Library, and supported by the Abu Dhabi Festival and the Ministry of Culture and Youth.
