Twice as many reports.

On Friday, the Ministry of Education unveiled the figures on attacks on secularism in November.

Balance sheet: 353 reports in schools.

This is half as much as in October, during which 720 incidents were recorded in 59,260 schools, colleges and high schools.

A high proportion of incidents remains linked to the wearing of religious signs and outfits, explains the ministry.

In detail, it represents 39% of the reports identified, against 40% in October, the ministry said in a press release.

These incidents are based on the “wearing of signs ostensibly manifesting religious affiliation”, and the “wearing of outfits which do not by nature manifest religious affiliation, such as long skirts or dresses, abayas and qamis”.

They concern "mainly the spaces and times of activities outside the classroom", according to the ministry.

The majority of acts committed at college

Next come verbal provocations (12%, compared to 14% in October), suspicion of proselytism (12%, compared to 10), disputed teaching (10%, compared to 12%), community demands (8%, compared 6%), the refusal of school activity (8%, against 5%) and finally the refusal of republican values (4%, against 9%).

The majority of the acts were committed by students (85%) and the majority also took place in colleges (48%, against 52% in October).

36% took place in high schools (37% in October).

These figures were previously communicated quarterly, but their publication has moved to a monthly rhythm since the start of the school year.

A total of 627 incidents were recorded in the first quarter of 2022 (December to March) and 904 in the second quarter (April to July 2022).

A note from the State services pointed out, in mid-October, the "multiplication" of attacks on secularism.

It supplemented an alert already issued at the end of August, which accused the "Islamist movement" of questioning "the principle of secularism at school" by relying on social networks, in particular Twitter or TikTok.
