The fate of Hassan Iquioussen is still pending.

Brussels continues its discussions with Paris on the methods of expulsion of the Moroccan imam, exiled in Belgium.

He is considered undesirable "on European soil" and could be sent directly to Morocco.

This preacher from the north of France was placed in a closed center in mid-November for illegal residence.

But he disputes the prospect of his expulsion and has multiplied the appeals.

Thursday, he suffered a setback before the indictment chamber of the Mons Court of Appeal (south).

“His request for release was rejected.

He therefore remains detained in the center of Vottem (east), as part of the administrative procedure,” François Demoulin, deputy public prosecutor in Mons, told AFP.

On Monday, another appeal had already been rejected, that filed against the order to leave Belgian territory taken on November 15 after the failure of the European arrest warrant procedure launched by France.

But the Council for Foreign Litigation (CCE) had noted a breach on the part of the Belgian immigration services: this order "contains no mention of the arrangement concerning the care" at the border of Belgium, stipulated its stop.

Should the imam be deported to France or directly to Morocco?

"France's objective is for Hassan Iquioussen to remain outside the national territory and be returned to Morocco," argued a source familiar with the matter in Paris.

But for that, Morocco would have to deliver to Belgium the consular document allowing such a removal.

"There are permanent contacts [between the capitals] because we don't want someone who preaches hatred on European soil," a spokeswoman for the Belgian Secretary of State for Migration simply said on Thursday. Nicole deMoor.

At the end of July, the French Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin announced the expulsion of Hassan Iquioussen, accusing him of "proselytizing speech interspersed with remarks inciting hatred and discrimination and carrying a vision of Islam contrary to the values of the Republic.

But the imam could not be found when the expulsion order had been definitively validated by the Council of State on August 31.

He had fled to French-speaking Belgium where he was arrested in the Mons region on September 30.
