Condoms will be free in French pharmacies for young people between the ages of 18 and 25 from January, President

Emmanuel Macron

announced Thursday .

"In pharmacies, condoms will be free for those 18-25 years old. This will start on January 1. It is a small revolution in prevention," said the 44-year-old centrist president.

His statements took place during a meeting of the National Refoundation Council (CNR) dedicated to the health of young people in Fontaine-le-Comte, near Poitiers (central west).

Social Security has already reimbursed condoms since December 2018, if you have a prescription from a doctor or midwife,

to fight AIDS and sexually transmitted infections.

The president estimated that the "sexual health" of young people is a "real issue" and advocated training "better" teachers in "sex education", since "reality is very far from theory."

Macron also mentioned the vaccination of adolescents against the human papilloma virus and did not rule out "mandatory" vaccinations, if scientists recommend it.

The Government

also plans to make emergency contraceptives free for all women, without a prescription

, according to the budget project approved last week.

The Social Security budget rule also provides for free detection tests for sexually transmitted infections for those under 26 years of age.
