The discovery of the corpses in Port-Vendres (Pyrénées-Orientales), announced on Facebook by the departmental section of the LPO on November 25, had moved bird lovers.

She had also worried the breeders, fearing that the animals had succumbed to avian flu, leading to the establishment of restrictive health measures.

The LPO of Pyrénées-Orientales had indicated that it did not believe in the presence of the virus on the corpses.

The examinations carried out by the French Office for Biodiversity proved the association right.

Rossano Pulpito, president of the LPO 66, mentioned the track of extreme fatigue associated with malnutrition to explain the death of the penguins, which would have been forced to move during the strong storms.
