The European Union intends to reduce 4 of the "forever chemicals" in food

The European Commission announced today, Wednesday, that restrictions will be imposed on the levels of four so-called "forever chemicals" in food that pose health risks from 2023.

A statement from the Commission stated that "perfluorinated substances" can have negative repercussions on the immune system, the development of fetuses and children, or cholesterol.

"Today we are taking a new step to increase the level of food safety in the European Union and better protect citizens' health from harmful chemicals," EU Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides said in a statement.

"These new rules show that we are committed to putting the health of our citizens first," she added.
