Two days after her violent death, 14-year-old Ece S. was buried in Oberkirchberg, south of Ulm.

The funeral took place according to Muslim rites in the cemetery in Oberkirchberg.

More than 1,500 people attended the funeral service.

Many belong to the Alevi community and family circle of friends.

The family was able to say goodbye to the girl at the open coffin in the cemetery.

Normally, a Muslim funeral should take place on the day of death, which was not possible here due to the investigation by the public prosecutor.

The autopsy revealed that Ece S. bled to death after stab wounds.

Great attendance at the funeral service

The mourners were so large that parts of the Muslim funeral service had to be moved to the parking lot in front of the cemetery.

Ulm Mayor Gunter Czisch (CDU) and SPD member of the Bundestag Leni Breymaier, who grew up in Oberkirchberg, a district of Illerkirchberg, also attended the funeral.

Many classmates laid flowers at the grave.

A friend of the deceased gave a short speech.

After the funeral, many mourners stopped again at the crime scene, which is about 1.5 kilometers from the cemetery in the valley.

They lit candles and laid flowers at the scene of the crime in front of the dilapidated communal refugee home.

Many women and men of Turkish origin blamed local politicians for the murder.

"It was known that the asylum seekers had repeatedly molested the girls and the children from the kindergarten across the street," said a mother of several children from Ulm.

The alleged perpetrator, a 27-year-old asylum seeker from Eritrea, is now in the Hohenasperg prison hospital.

A warrant for his arrest was issued for murder and attempted murder.

The investigators of the criminal police are currently trying to clarify the personal environment of the suspect.

He himself makes use of his right to refuse to testify.

The interrogation of Ece S.'s classmate, who was also seriously injured, has not yet been completed.

It is also unclear whether the victim and perpetrator knew each other.

However, it is considered possible that the two schoolgirls were harassed again and again on their daily way to school along the asylum seekers' home.
