A great act of generosity.

A man, who died in early September at the age of 99, decided to bequeath all of his paintings to his hometown of Vitry-le-François (Marne).

The collection has 43 works and is estimated at 50,000 euros, reports

Le Parisien

.

There are works signed by well-known artists such as Jacques-Henri Lartigue or Marc Chagall.

Art lover, the deceased lived in Neuilly-sur-Seine (Hauts-de-Seine) for years.

But he liked to go regularly to his house located near Vitry-le-François.

His last wish was to have his collection permanently exhibited at the city hall.

"It's exceptional, we were really surprised and touched", comments the deputy mayor in charge of Culture.

For the moment, all the works are exhibited "in a safe place".

They will be examined to determine their state of conservation.

"A restorer will intervene to repair some frames and enlighten us for the development of these paintings", adds the assistant.

A vernissage and a tribute to the generous donor will be organized in 2023.
