The UAE National Pavilion, which concluded its seventh participation in the International Art Exhibition at the Venice Biennale 2022, finally recorded a record attendance in its art exhibition entitled “Mohammed Ahmed Ibrahim: Between Sunrise and Sunset”, as it attracted 277,203 visitors, making it the most attractive art exhibition for visitors. And the presence in the history of the participation of the UAE National Pavilion at the Venice Biennale.

The director of the pavilion, Laila Bin Brik, said: “The exhibition, which opened last April, witnessed a remarkable turnout from local and international visitors, and this was evident in the record attendance of visitors inside the national pavilion and the distinguished participations that touched on the subject and story of the exhibition, as an emotional relationship arose between the audience and the exhibition (Mohammed Ahmed). Ibrahim: Between Sunrise and Sunset), which reflects our commitment to telling the stories of the Emirates and drawing the world's attention to its rich heritage in the edifices of art and architecture.

She added, “Continuing our record of successes and achievements, we are looking forward to participating in the next edition of the International Architecture Exhibition at the Venice Biennale 2023, under the supervision of curator Faisal Tabbara, Associate Dean and Associate Professor at the College of Architecture, Art and Design at the American University of Sharjah.

Tabbara and his team's goal will be to explore the dimensions of the extended relationship between the architectural landscape and the arid or arid nature of the UAE, and put it in a new framework that reimagines it as vast, rich and productive spaces.

For his part, Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim said: “I was honored to represent my dear country at the Venice Biennale, one of the most prominent and famous international art events. similar to them.

I preferred to adopt an approach focused on highlighting the aspects of the original and rooted features of my artwork, with the aim of urging future generations of UAE artists to be proud of their authentic heritage and preserve their identity while moving forward towards shaping the future of arts in the UAE.

The National Pavilion exhibition, organized under the supervision of the Executive Director of the Art Gallery and Chief Curator at NYU Abu Dhabi, Curator Maya Ellison, presented a single work in which dozens of human-scale sculptures and biomorphic shapes come together in undulating colors and movement that suggest bodies or trees, as well as transformations and mutations.

The artwork was inspired by the close relationship the artist has with his local environment in his hometown, Khorfakkan.

The Salama Bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation is the official delegate for the UAE National Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Youth.
