The US rock band Guns N' Roses wants to go to court over a name dispute over an online gun shop.

The lawsuit, filed Thursday in Los Angeles, said the band did not want to be associated with provider Texas Guns and Roses.

However, consumers are led to believe that the online shop has something to do with the band.

The gun shop operator is using the name without "authorization, license or consent" from Guns N' Roses, the band's lawyers said.

He also expresses "political views on the site regarding the regulation and control of firearms and weapons that may be polarizing for many US consumers."

The rock band's lawyers want to ensure that the arms dealer no longer operates his business under the previous name, and they are also demanding damages.

The online shop initially left an inquiry from the AFP news agency unanswered.
