A 16-year-old young man is still in a coma, with vital prognosis, after a scene of violence that occurred on Saturday during a birthday party held in Rochefort (Charente-Maritime).
The teenager "had come between his mother and an attacker when he received a violent blow from a metal object on the skull as well as kicks" indicates this Wednesday the public prosecutor of La Rochelle, Laurent Zuchowicz.
Several other people were more lightly injured during the evening.
Rivalry between two neighborhoods
Saturday around 11:30 p.m., a group of five to seven individuals burst into this multipurpose room, where there were about twenty people gathered for a birthday party.
“These young men, all minors except for one, committed violence against the participants, using in particular a baseball bat, an adjustable wrench type object, as well as tear gas canisters” describes the prosecutor.
The reason for this attack “seems to be linked to a rivalry between two districts of Rochefort, and to recent violence.

A judicial inquiry has been opened on the counts of “violence with weapons resulting in mutilation or permanent disability, violence with weapons in meetings and with premeditation.
The investigation, conducted by the Rochefort police station, led to the arrest of five people aged 15 to 19.
Two minors were indicted and placed under judicial supervision, while the adult, already convicted of acts of violence, was indicted and placed in detention.
