The makeshift shelters that appeared last January under the Garigliano bridge in Toulouse, on the banks of the Garonne, will disappear.

On November 2, the administrative court had authorized the authorities to evacuate, respecting a period of fifteen days, this shantytown where lived, in unsanitary conditions, around 90 migrants of Albanian origin, including many children.

“The evacuation of this illegal camp” took place this Tuesday morning, the prefecture announced, after a “precise diagnosis” of the situation of the occupants.

Four families, “i.e. 18 people, including 10 children”, were however still there on Tuesday at the time of the evacuation “A family with five children was taken care of in hotel nights because of their vulnerability and the three other families , have been included in the national reception system as part of their asylum application”, specifies the prefecture.

Work is due to start on the camp site as part of the “Grand Parc Garonne” project, led by Toulouse Métropole.
