Tyumen State University is one of the participants in the Priority 2030 government program.

The key goal of Tyumen State University is leadership in the West Siberian scientific and educational cluster.

To this end, the university is implementing five strategic projects in relevant areas: "Biosafe World", "Ecosystems of the Future", "Nature-Inspired Engineering", "Multiparadigm Education", as well as the "Sustainable Development of the Macroregion" project.

Development course

Thus, the objective of the strategic project "Sustainable Development of the Macroregion" is to turn the university into a driver of innovative, economic development of the entire West Siberian macroregion.

To this end, Tyumen State University plans to improve the quality of its human capital, expand the range of educational programs and obtain advanced scientific results.

The past decade was a period of active development of Tyumen State University.

The university has evolved from a regional university into a pioneer of educational innovation at the national level.

In 2019, it became the base platform for the formation of the World-Class Interregional West Siberian Scientific and Educational Center (REC).

As part of the transformation, the university launched a number of projects and sites from scratch - the so-called "greenfields".

Thus, the School of Advanced Studies (SAS) and the Institute of Ecological and Agricultural Biology (X-Bio) have been launched on the basis of Tyumen State University.

SAS implements advanced approaches to education and teaches foreign experts from different countries.

A relevant indicator of the development of the university is the growth of grants received by scientists from Tyumen State University.

The number of grants won by research teams of Tyumen State University over the past 10 years has increased by 6.7 times and reached 80.

In scientific research, university staff concentrated on several important areas.

First of all, we are talking about biological safety - several research teams are involved in interdisciplinary work on this topic.

By 2021, Tyumen State University ranked first in Russia in the field of entomological research, second in soil science, and third in scientific disciplines dedicated to plants and animals.

Scientific teams of Tyumen State University conduct fundamental and applied research.

Thus, Tyumen State University carried out research and development work (R&D) for Russian oilmen.

Frames in priority

Personnel policy plays a special role in the development strategy.

In recent years, the university has been actively engaged in the search and involvement of scientific and pedagogical workers in the framework of the New Faces program.

As a result, over the decade, it was possible to update the staff of the university by 30%, as well as rejuvenate it - the share of young employees today is about 28%.

We also managed to attract foreign scientists and Russians with scientific degrees in leading foreign universities - in ten years their share increased from 0.2% to 8.2%.

The transformations also affected the students of Tyumen State University.

They are actively involved not only in social, but also in entrepreneurial projects.

Thus, talented students, with the support of the university, can create start-ups and cooperate with innovative enterprises.

All this, coupled with the growing prestige of Tyumen State University, increased the attractiveness of the university in the eyes of applicants.

The result was an increase in the number of full-time students in recent years by 27%.

The number of foreign students has also grown - by 2020, their share amounted to almost 11% of the total number of full-time students.

Flexible approach

Over the past five years, the university has been introducing a flexible approach to education, which allows adjusting the university education system to the individual needs of students.

Under this model, dubbed "2+2+2", students can switch between programs during their studies.

The first two years are devoted to the study of general education disciplines, the development of worldview and critical thinking among students.

After the successful completion of this stage, the student can choose the most interesting profile direction for himself and continue his education.

Two years later, the student has the opportunity to adjust his educational vector again.

To change direction, the student must make up the academic difference - this can be done during the "summer semester".

During this period, anyone can undergo additional training, which will allow him to continue his studies in another specialization from the beginning of the academic year.

The university even has a specialist who helps students make the right choice - a tutor.

He advises children who have expressed a desire to change the direction of education, and helps them navigate the educational programs.

Such a system easily adapts to interesting students, who often change as they grow up.

The formula "2 + 2 + 2" stands for a two-level bachelor's degree (or specialist) and a master's degree.

The new flexible model has already been put into practice at Tyumen State University - all students enrolled in full-time studies in 2022 study according to it.

Tyumen State University also has a system of electives - elective courses that are available to all university students.

In total, about 700 such additional courses are taught in the arsenal of Tyumen State University, which are selected on a competitive basis.
