Senegal, Tunisia, Morocco, Ghana and Cameroon all have a chance of qualifying for the round of 16 of this 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
But some will have to achieve the impossible during the third and last day of group stages to continue the adventure.
Senegal, Ghana, pass the South American pitfall
A defeat to start, and then a victory to revive.
Senegal and Ghana have almost the same destiny, on the eve of the third and final day of the group stage of the 2022 World Cup. The Lions, reigning African champions, recovered by dominating Qatar (3-1) after
losing to the Netherlands (2-0)
.
This Tuesday, November 29, Senegal has no choice but to beat Ecuador, joint leaders of Pool A, to open the doors to the round of 16.
A last match against a South American team, Senegal has already experienced that.
In 2002, the draw against Uruguay (3-3) was enough for him to pass.
But in 2018, his defeat against Colombia (0-1) had put an end to his dream.
What scenario against Ecuador?
For Ghana, who
beat South Korea (3-2)
after losing to Portugal (2-3), the last meeting against Uruguay will look like revenge, 12 years after the quarter-final which deprived the Black Stars of a historic semi-final for them and for Africa.
Luis Suarez will be on the pitch, as will
André Ayew
, the last “surviving” Ghanaian of this evening.
The deal will be simple for Otto Addo's men: a victory and the Black Stars will qualify for the round of 16, for the third time in four participations in the World Cup.
Tunisia and Cameroon condemned to exploit
The course of Tunisia and Cameroon are very similar in this World Cup.
Both teams looked as if they had let their chances slip by losing to opponents within their reach.
Respectively
face Australia
and
Switzerland
by the same score, 1-0, in matches they had to win to believe in qualification.
Result: the Eagles of Carthage and the Indomitable Lions will have to beat France and Brazil respectively to hope to see the round of 16.
Facing the reigning world champions, already qualified, Tunisia will face a revamped but no less competitive team.
For Cameroon, the scenario will be the same in front of a Brazilian team guaranteed to play in the round of 16.
But the Auriverde reservoir will be enough to make the Indomitables suffer, who have already lost in the World Cup to Brazil in 1994 (3-0) and 2014 (4-1).
Morocco, now or never
While they were predicted the worst in a group with the reigning vice-world champion, Croatia, and the super outsider, Belgium, Morocco found themselves at the top of their group after two days.
Tied on points (4) with Croatia, which they held in check (0-0) on the first day, the Atlas Lions created a sensation by
taming the Red Devils
(2-0).
On the eve of the third day against Canada, eliminated, Morocco has more than ever the opportunity to qualify for the second time in its history in the round of 16, after the 1986 edition. The Moroccans had been eliminated at the time by Germany, future finalist.
A win or a draw will be enough for them.
Even a defeat could work in their favor if Belgium lose to Croatia.
