The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has revealed the members of the jury for the "Al Marmoom: Film in the Desert" festival, which will be organized from the ninth to the 11th of next December, in the Al Marmoum Desert Reserve.

The committee includes a group of cinema experts in the UAE and the region, and they are: director and poet Nujoom Al-Ghanem, managing director of Fox Cinema Tony Al-Masih, director and producer Omar Butti, producer and director Nahla Al-Fahd, and director Amna Belhoul, as they will undertake the task of evaluating the short films participating in the Marmoum Industry Competition. Short films that include documentaries, animation films, and live action films.

Sheikh Maktoum bin Marawan bin Mohammed bin Hasher Al Maktoum, Project Manager of the Marmoum Festival, Senior Officer for Projects and Events Management at the Authority, stressed the importance of the festival, pointing out that it “represents a unique platform that focuses on supporting young cinematic talents in the region, and gives them the opportunity to expand its prospects.”

He added, "The second edition of the festival features a rich program, through which (Dubai Culture) seeks to support, motivate and empower local and regional filmmakers, in order to achieve its vision aimed at consolidating Dubai's position as a global center for culture, an incubator for creativity, a meeting place for talents," pointing out that the festival contributes through its competition. And its series of activities in promoting the film industry in all its fields, which works to provide an incubating environment for youth creativity.

For her part, the director of the "Al Marmoum: Film in the Desert" project, a senior officer in the office of the Executive Director of the Arts and Literature Sector in "Dubai Culture", Shamma Yahya Al Muhairi, stressed the importance of the names that will undertake the process of judging films competing for the festival's awards.

She said, "The members of the committee are distinguished by their high experience and their fingerprints in the film industry," adding that the members of the committee will work through their observations to help filmmakers refine and develop their creativity, as the festival aims, through its competitions, to attract talents in the short film industry, and provide them with an innovative platform that enables them to Bringing their skills to a professional level.

It is noteworthy that the Emirati director and poet Nujoom Al-Ghanim has won many local, regional and international awards.

She also directed and produced eight feature films, including “Dove”, “Red, Blue, Yellow”, “The Mourid”, “Between Two Banks” and “Honey, Rain and Dust”.

While the producer and director, Omar Butti, Executive Director of Strategic Initiatives and Media Studies at the Dubai Film and Television Committee, has extensive experience in film directing and production, and previously held the position of assistant director of the movie “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol”, which Dubai hosted the filming of a group of his scenes.

In addition to Tony Al-Masih, whose duties are based on achieving the priorities of “Majid Al-Futtaim” in producing content, purchasing and distributing films, in addition to the task of programming films and content at Fox Cinemas.

As for the director and producer, Nahla Al-Fahd, she made a distinguished mark in the film industry and drama series, including the films “Veil” and “218: Behind the Wall of Silence” and the series “War of Hearts”, “Zero Hour” and “Tears of Snakes”.

She won many awards and certificates of appreciation, and held the position of Executive Director of Emirati Content Management at Expo 2020 Dubai.

In addition to director Amna Belhoul, who assumed the task of supervising the creative vision for the opening and closing ceremonies of Expo 2020 Dubai, in addition to the responsibility for developing creative programming for the Al Wasl Dome in the international exhibition, whose characters she designed.

Under the slogan "Stories told by nature", the "Al Marmoum: Film in the Desert" festival celebrates local and regional filmmakers, and opens up horizons for them to present their different stories. For its vision aimed at establishing Dubai as a global destination for film production and the cinema industry.

The festival will display a range of films that reflect the visions of their makers and the aesthetics of human societies and the environment, in addition to organizing discussion sessions and workshops presented by a group of experts in the film industry.
