James Cameron still remembers the impression the actor left on him when he first met him to audition.



“I'm sitting in my conference room waiting to meet an actor, okay?

I look around me and, strangely, all the women in the building are there.

There is a producer, so far so good.

They all wanted to meet Leo.

It was hysteria,” the filmmaker told GQ.

But James Cameron couldn't stop at a first impression to choose the leading role in the biggest film he had ever made.

James Cameron therefore asked Leonardo DiCaprio to come back to do a reading with Kate Winslet, just to see if the chemistry was between them.

And the actor replied: "Oh, I don't do reading".

The filmmaker then shook his hand before thanking him for coming.

Suddenly realizing that the role was slipping away from him, Leonardo DiCaprio quickly changed his mind!

"Every particle of his being was so negative," James Cameron recalls.

But in the end, the actor bowed to the exercise, and James Cameron quickly understood who he was really dealing with.

"He just became Jack and Kate (Winslet) lit up and they played the scene," he continued.

“The dark clouds dispersed and a ray of light illuminated Jack.

I thought to myself, “Okay, this is our man”.
