A Mexican girl was born with a 5-centimetre "tail".

A baby girl was born in Mexico, with a congenital defect, which necessitated a caesarean section for the baby in a hospital in Mexico.

Meanwhile, the team of doctors examined the girl's tail, which was 5.7 cm long and between 3 and 5 mm in diameter. There was also light hair on the tail and it had a pointed tip at the end.

Doctors said that the mother did not suffer from any problem during pregnancy.

There was also no prior history of radiation, infection, etc.

Also, the family already has a son, who was born healthy.

Doctors were surprised that the baby, who was born with a tail, was in good health, as brain, heart, hearing and urine tests showed normal results.

That's why doctors took x-rays to investigate this tail, and scans revealed that the tail was not the result of a problem with the spine, nor was there evidence of bones inside it.

The tail was not connected to the nervous system, which means it could be surgically removed.

And the doctors added – the tail was soft, covered with skin, and had light hair, which could be moved without causing any pain to the child.

After conducting all the tests, the surgeons removed the tail from the girl's body with a simple surgery that was performed under local anesthesia. The patient was discharged on the same day and did not suffer from any complications until now, more than two months after her discharge from the hospital.

The team noted that true human tails are extremely rare, with only 195 cases identified by 2017, and the longest is 20 cm (7.9 in).

They added that it is often found in boys and one in 17 children with tails suffers from a developmental disorder of the brain or skull.

They are generally not detected until after the baby is born and doctors don't know what causes them.
