A male student attending Teikyo University this month made an inquiry about joining a seminar, but a male professor misunderstood him as a female student based on his name.

According to this male student, when he later met with the professor and asked about the meaning of the email, he said, "I thought you were a woman and intended to be given priority. I can't help but misunderstand you because it's a name like that. It is the authority of the side."

The student told the interview, "I was shocked to see that gender discrimination was taking place. I felt strong anger when my name was insulted."

In response to this post, Teikyo University announced on its website that it had launched an internal investigation committee on suspicion of academic harassment using the position of a faculty member.

The university said, "We believe that academic harassment and discriminatory behavior should never be tolerated. We will report the facts as soon as they become clear."
