A total of 303 lives have been saved from the death line, more than 1,700 people with sudden diseases have been treated and transferred, more than 7,000 villagers have been sent to the countryside for free diagnosis and treatment, and medical and health related training has been carried out, with more than 10,000 participants... For more than 7 years, Sinopec The volunteer medical service team organized by the Northwest Oilfield Public Security Fire Center runs in the Taklamakan Desert to save lives and heal the wounded. It is known as the "Ark of Life in the Desert".

Sinopec Northwest Oilfield South Xinjiang Work Area is located in Luntai County, Kuqa City, and Shaya County, Xinjiang. The surrounding villages are nearly 100 kilometers away from the nearest county hospital. If not treated or transferred in time, it may be life-threatening.

In May 2015, the Oilfield Public Security Fire Center organized 27 doctors, nurses and gas defense medical station employees with professional rescue qualifications to set up the "Desert Health Express" volunteer medical service team.

Since its establishment more than 7 years ago, the medical service team has been running in the Taklimakan Desert to save lives and heal the wounded. It is known as the "Ark of Life in the Desert".

  "The last 100 kilometers"

On the morning of November 6, Gao Weiwei, deputy captain of the "Desert Health Express" service team, received a thank you call from the family of Mr. Wang, a patient with cerebral infarction.

It turned out that on the evening of October 24, Mr. Wang, a 53-year-old merchant in Jamaiti Community, Luntai County, suddenly had symptoms of suspected cerebral infarction, such as unsteady walking, and urgently needed to be sent to the hospital for emergency treatment.

Members of the service team rushed to his home and were initially diagnosed with acute cerebral infarction. They urgently connected with Luntai County Hospital. After 1 hour and 50 minutes of transfer and rescue by doctors, the patient was successfully rescued.

From May 2015 to the present, the "Desert Health Express" has saved 303 lives from the death line, treated and transferred more than 1,700 people with sudden illnesses, and sent medical services to the countryside to provide free diagnosis and treatment for more than 7,000 villagers, and carried out medical and health related training. More than 10,000 people.

Before the establishment of the service team, the shortcoming of emergency medical treatment that plagued local workers and the public was the "last 100 kilometers". Many industrial production sites and residential areas may be more than 100 kilometers away from the nearest county hospital.

"Sometimes when an emergency patient is encountered, it takes more than 200 kilometers to go to the nearest Luntai Hospital, and Korla takes nearly 600 kilometers to go back and forth." Abelijiang, a doctor of the service team, said that the journey is long, time-consuming, and road conditions are bad. First, this poses a certain challenge to the service team. "The journey is long, and the doctors and nurses take turns doing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the premise of doing a good job in the patient's infusion and oxygen inhalation, which consumes a lot of physical energy. Under the condition of ensuring safety, the driver And drive faster."

Long-distance and high-intensity work tests the team members.

"Sometimes when we are eating, we have to put down our rice bowl as soon as we receive a police mission. It is normal to eat twice in one meal, or even often miss it." Hu Zhaojun, the captain of the service team, said, "Regardless of holidays, the 24-hour service team They are all on duty. As long as the police are called, they will go out to save people in danger."

One more second is one more hope

In Hu Zhaojun's view, "Ambulance work is a race against time, and we dare not delay a second. Time is life, and saving time by one more second means more hope of survival."

He still remembers the mother-to-be who gave birth suddenly in the middle of the night at 120 kilometers on the desert road.

At that time, the mother-to-be took a long-distance bus from Qiemo to Korla. After receiving the information for help, Hu Zhaojun took volunteer medical staff, carrying basins, hot water, quilts, coats and other items to go. At that time, the desert road was full of fog. , the visibility was lower than 200 meters, and the medical staff notified the green channel agreement hospital to make preparations while calling to comfort the family members and reminding them of precautions.

When the volunteers arrived, they quickly transferred the mother from the bus to the ambulance, set up a temporary delivery room, and carried out a special delivery.

After more than half an hour of emergency rescue, the baby boy weighing about 7 catties fell to the ground.

Because the placenta remains in the body after delivery, it is very easy to cause massive bleeding. The newborn baby boy did not cry, his face was blue, and his breathing was weak...Medical staff quickly activated the emergency plan for the treatment of high-risk pregnant women.

Carry out cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the newborn, clear the amniotic fluid in the airway, and temporarily block the umbilical cord with sterile hemostatic forceps... Two minutes later, a loud cry came, mother and child are safe!

Subsequently, the medical staff successfully transferred the mother and son to Luntai County People's Hospital for emergency treatment. After careful care by doctors, the mother and son recovered and were discharged.

"Life is bigger than the sky, and the computer is not turned off 24 hours a day. Whenever a task comes, we will race against the clock and do our best, desperately 'race' against death, and desperately drag people back from the death line." Said the members of the service team.

The service team has been exploring and perfecting the grid-based management mechanism, and treating lives according to the principle of emergency treatment at the nearest location. It cooperates with the Beijing Road Medical District Hospital of Xinjiang Military Region General Hospital, Bazhou People's Hospital, Kuqa City People's Hospital, Luntai County People's Hospital, Shaya County The People's Hospital signed an agreement to establish an emergency green medical channel to ensure that the injured patients who were transported by pre-hospital emergency treatment can receive timely, rapid and effective treatment to the greatest extent.

  Ambulance is our position

"In times of crisis, all you need is a phone call, and they will appear beside the most vulnerable people. They are the hope of life." This is the common aspiration of the local people and employees.

Wu Hao, the former deputy captain of the service team, said: "For us, the bell is an order, and the ambulance is the position. This is not only a duty, but also a mission."

On December 19, 2019, a traffic accident occurred at a crossroad on the Desert Highway. Two people were injured at the scene. One of the children suffered serious head injuries and urgently needed rescue.

At this time, if it took more than two hours to arrive at the scene from Luntai County, the County People's Hospital immediately contacted the service team, and the medical staff arrived at the scene in only 42 minutes, braving the severe cold of minus 17 degrees Celsius at night, and quickly carried out rescue.

Ou Yulong still clearly remembers the circumstances of his rescue.

In a deep sleep at night, he was awakened by bursts of severe pain, chest tightness, suffocation, panic, and sweating profusely all over his body.

Doctor Battelle of the service team went there and initially determined that it was acute myocardial infarction. Emergency treatment was carried out immediately. At the same time, he contacted Kuqa City People's Hospital. When the ambulance arrived at the hospital, the hospital had already made all preparations.

Afterwards, the emergency doctor of Kuqa City People's Hospital said that every hour the patient postponed the operation, the mortality rate rose from 15.4% to 28.1%.

"At the most critical moment of my life, it was the service team who rescued me in time and rescued me from death. They not only saved my life, but also saved the happiness of a family." Ou Yulong said.

The service teams not only carry out emergency rescue, they also carry out health knowledge training and free medical consultation.

This is because the volunteers found that the local people have shallow first aid knowledge, poor self-rescue ability, lack of understanding of various sudden diseases and common disease prevention knowledge, self-rescue methods, and little knowledge of health common sense. Effective treatment measures cannot be carried out before the arrival of professional medical personnel.

It is often life-threatening due to untimely treatment or transfer, resulting in increased mortality and disability rates.

By popularizing knowledge of self-rescue and mutual rescue, trauma first aid, etc., volunteers are working hard to shorten the "emergency radius" in the desert, so that the Ark of Life can play its greatest role.
