Let's go for a month of wonder and festivities.

The illumination of the big Christmas tree, place Kléber in Strasbourg, marked the official launch of the 2022 Christmas market, as every year. visitors who came to celebrate this new edition and enjoy the open chalets, in the first aromas of comforting mulled wines in this freezing cold.

For the first time, “Strasbourg offered residents and visitors the opportunity to experience the inauguration of the event, Capital of Christmas, in their image”, and above all at their own pace.

Several emblematic places of the hypercentre have indeed come to life through artistic representations (theater, music, illustrations) which tell the traditions of Christmas, its history and its values.

The idea being to be able to wander around the city at your own pace, and particularly through the spaced out aisles of the different markets to facilitate flow.

A smooth launch

Different places in the city were illuminated at the same time, from 6 p.m., every 30 minutes, until 8 p.m.

Among them, and particularly awaited, is the traditional and photogenic Porte des Lumières, down the street from the Vieux Marché aux Poissons.

The merchants' association, les Vitrines de Strasbourg, accompanied by the singers Les Stentors and Pascal Vecca, sponsor of the Strasbourg Capitale de Noël 2022 edition, put on a show for the occasion.

Calmer and more poetic perhaps, Place Broglie, on the facade of the Town Hall, the actor Jean Lorrain and the Master of the Opéra national du Rhin directed by Luciano Bibiloni, put into voice the story of Christkindelmärik and the traditional Alsatian Christmas characters, around a scenography created by HEAR illustrators.

Towards Petite France, at Louise Weiss and Lacore squares, in the Village de l'Avent, always at 6 p.m., accompanied by the Cham class choir from Lezay-Marnesia college, the actor Pierre le Crieur told the story of the place and took the spectators to discover this village for young and old.

At the foot of the large Christmas tree on Place Kléber, shortly after 7 p.m., where thousands of visitors gathered, the illumination was a big success.

It must be said that this year, the lighting was particularly neat and lively.

Beneath a crowd repeatedly singing

Vive le vent d'hiver

, the Stentors performed Christmas carols under a Grand fir tree which shone with its thousand lights.

For now, the magic of Christmas envelops the city.
