Author and journalist Liza Alexandrova-Zorina has lived in both Stockholm and Moscow since 2016. When the human rights organization she was active in was banned by Russian authorities, she chose to move to Sweden full-time.

It was 2021 and the same year she married Dimtri Plax, journalist, radio producer and board member of Svenska Pen.

When she was notified by the Swedish Migration Agency on November 18 that she would be deported from Sweden, it drew sharp criticism and was condemned in social and traditional media.

The authority has now reconsidered its decision and has come to the conclusion of granting the residence permit.

- It still hasn't sunk in, I still don't think it's happening.

But I am so grateful for the support I have received from all people, she tells DN.

Feels responsible

Alexandrova-Zorina says that she thinks it is embarrassing that the Swedish Migration Agency changed its decision because, according to her, it shows how privileged she is in relation to other people in a similar position and refers to her profession and contact network.

Therefore, she feels that she has a responsibility to help the less fortunate who have problems with the authority.

- I hope that my case can perhaps create a kind of new precedent at the Swedish Migration Agency, that next time they will think a little before rejecting a Russian dissident's application.
