With a ceremony in which a group of talents in the field of music were crowned, the Culture and Arts Authority in Dubai, the day before yesterday, closed the curtain on the first edition of the "Dubai Youth Music Festival", which it organized for only one day, and gathered more than 70 talents.

The competition witnessed high competition among the talents participating in the festival, through which the authority confirms its commitment to nurturing young talents and providing the music sector in Dubai with new blood.

Emirati musician Eid Al-Faraj was honored with the title "Musical Personality of the Year", in recognition of his long artistic career and his contributions to enriching the local art scene.

Dr. Saeed Mubarak bin Kharbash, speaking during the ceremony that was held in the Mohammed bin Rashid Library, Executive Director of the Arts and Literature Sector in Dubai Culture, said: “Music is a civilized way to deepen love between segments of society and enhance rapprochement between them, and through this festival it confirms The authority is committed to providing support for creative talents in various artistic and cultural fields, and the opportunities they need to enable them to express their artistic abilities and skills.

Acting Director of the Performing Arts Department at Dubai Culture, Fatima Al-Jallaf, indicated that the festival contributes to supporting young talents and pumping new blood into the veins of the local music scene, explaining that Dubai was and still is an important destination for the owners of musical creativity, which contributed to creating a sustainable artistic environment. It is able to advance this sector, which forms one of the foundations of the creative economy, which Dubai aspires to be its global capital by 2026.

The festival’s jury, consisting of Dr. Muhammad Hamami, the artist Tariq Al-Minhali and the musician Tala Badri, followed the talent shows, and selected the winners and honorees, in five categories, where Najma Al-Kour won the award for best singing, while Hussein Nofal won the award for best Arabic playing (the oud instrument), and won Naram Rashid won the award for best classical instrumentation (violin), Victoria Demi won the award for best piano performance, and the Hand Pan Orchestra, led by Anas Halabi, won the award for best integrated orchestra.

And the Emirati musician, Eid Al-Faraj, was honored with the title of the festival's musical personality.

He pointed out the need to pay attention to young talents, with an emphasis on their receiving local and Arab music, not just Western ones.

A daunting task

Tariq Al-Minhali, a member of the jury, told Emirates Today: “Selecting talent was a difficult task, especially since the applicants were of several nationalities and presented Arab and Western arts, with reference to the absence of Emiratis. I saw one Emirati talent, and I hope they will be encouraged to participate, in addition to the need to announce more about the festival.

He stressed that this festival would raise the level of music in the Emirates, noting that what is currently being presented in the world of music is very important and deserves to be dedicated.

Hussein Nofal, winner of the category of playing the oud, said: “I started playing from a young age, and I have been living in Dubai for four years.

He pointed out that he gained a lot on the level of music in Dubai, as this city provides care and support to everyone who lives on its land.

As for the winner for singing, Najma Al-Kour, she pointed out that she started singing in English and moved to Arabic, and participated in the festival because she found positive energy in it that pushed her to continue in the field of music, with a focus on organizing time, especially since she is still in school.

The evening of the festival bore many creations, as Dr. Mohamed Hamami presented a musical performance on the violin, and a group of amateurs, including Noura Abdel Salam and Khaled Mohamed Hammadi from the Zayed Education Complex, presented piano performances.

The evening witnessed active participation by people of determination, who presented to the audience a group of wonderful musical pieces, in which Malak Omar Alloush and Ahmed Al-Musawi from “Children of the Autism Spectrum” starred.
