• The very slow dripping of the Artist's Statute Five measures of 76 in three years

The Minister of Culture and Sports, Miquel Iceta, said today that "for the first time in the history" of Spain, a structural unemployment benefit

will be created that "adapts to the intermittency" of the

cultural sector.

This was confirmed by the head of Culture this morning, despite the fact that he has not developed this announcement that is part of the "advanced" measures for the development of the Artist Statute, whose measures, he stated during a meeting organized by Europa Press, he hopes come into force "before the end of the year".

"And I hope to comply", he has qualified, because he has had the "immense luck" of having the commitment of the whole of the Government.

The Vice President and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, the Minister of Social Security, José Luis Escrivá and the Minister of Universities, Joan Subirats attended the event, in which Iceta released the data published today by his ministry on employment in the cultural sector: 710,200 people, 3.5% of total employment in Spain, are dedicated to culture.

This data is exactly the same as that of 2019, which means that

"we have fully recovered" the cultural employment we had prior to the pandemic

, he pointed out.

Iceta, who recalled that the Government will allocate 1,804 million euros to policies aimed at culture and sports, greeted his colleague with

"God save the Minister of Finance"

to thank his colleague for the "commitment of the Government of Spain with the culture, with sport, in all its spheres".

Regarding the attacks by climate activists on Spanish museums, the minister reiterated that

"zero risk" does not exist

, and he addressed the director of the Prado Museum, Miguel Falomir, when he said that "the Prado has not failed any".

Also about the museums, but about his staff, Iceta has said that "for a few years, either due to political priority or economic necessity," a zero restocking fee policy was applied.

"

Leaves or retirement were not covered and that weakened the number of people we have in public institutions

. Next year 600 workers will be incorporated (...) What I ask is that we all be very respectful because we are living in a moment of transition in which the new staff have not yet arrived and this is causing some tension in some museums", he acknowledged.

But, he stressed, "our museums are the pear": "We want more staff and we will have it, but surely

the situation cannot be considered normalized until next year

".

Likewise, Iceta has declared that despite the fact that the "world is big", Spanish culture "wants to reach everywhere".
