“This summer, it exploded.

So many reports that it was difficult to follow, ”testified an investigator from the SPA of Montluçon (Allier).

The facts take place in particular in rural communes, where livestock are very present.

The number of animals per inhabitant is also higher there.

Dogs are the most affected by abuse in municipalities with more than 20,000 inhabitants, at 56%.

On the other hand, cats are more victims in rural areas.

Serious abuse and ill-treatment are the most frequent attacks, representing 9% of cases.

Abandonments are also up 93% since 2016. The government has decided to tackle the problem by creating a division of investigators specializing in animal abuse.

In the Allier, ten new volunteers will join the SPA by next summer.
