After the CPF, customs fees and even flat tire scams, another scam is flourishing as the end of the year festivities approach.

Last Saturday, the Paris police headquarters gave the alert on Twitter about Christmas shopping.

Indeed, several people have been victims of embezzlement during their shopping spree.

Operation mode

To achieve their ends, the crooks don the outfit of store clerks.

They rush after customers who have just made purchases and inform them that a payment error has been made.

This is usually a payment that must be made in their favour.

The false seller then presents a payment terminal to the customer, instructing him to insert his bank card and dial his code.

He then claims a problem with the terminal, forcing him to return to the store.

Of course, the criminal then disappears into the wild with the deceived person's credit card... In order not to fall into the trap, it is recommended to be suspicious and return to the store with the alleged employee.

Never give him your bank card and ask to speak to a manager if in doubt.

A similar incident on the Côte d'Azur

Last October, a couple was brought to justice for a series of similar scams committed in several towns on the Côte d'Azur.

The first sidekick stood behind the elderly people at the checkout and noted the amount of their shopping.

His sidekick disguised himself as an employee and ran after the customer at the exit of the store, claiming a payment error.

Again, the couple fled with the victim's credit card.
