Under the pedestrian tunnel of rue Louis de Coppet in Nice, an inscription in red on the wall recalls the affair which took place a few kilometers away, in Mougins in 1994. Under this sentence "Qatar killed me" , a mannequin dressed in a construction helmet, overalls and a yellow vest is lying on the ground.

Behind this happening, the artist TooLate, who had already raised awareness, through other performances, of the climate emergency but also denounced "human bullshit" linked to the Covid in Paris.

With this representation, the Niçois explains that he wants to "open his eyes" to the "conditions of workers" and to "the thousands of deaths" that the 2022 World Cup in Qatar would have caused, in particular with the construction of stadiums.

A boycott based on the results of the Blues

The street artist specifies that he made this work in Nice because of the mayor's decision to "broadcast the matches in the fan zone, while many French cities have decided to boycott the event".

For him, "we can't watch the matches as if everything was normal".

On the question of the broadcasting of the matches, Christian Estrosi had declared at the beginning of October: "I suggest that you ask me the question whether France is in the final or in the semi-final".

This made the environmental group react, which asked the city “not to stage this sporting event, nor fan zone, nor giant screen”.

Culture

Who is TooLate, this street artist who wants to "point the finger at human bullshit"?
