Saint-Remy-en-Bouzemont-Saint-Genest-et-Isson in Marne, the French commune with the longest name, is looking to keep another record.

She wants to reopen "Le Lion d'Or".

This café closed in 2014 would be the oldest in the department, according to research carried out by historians, reports France 3 Grand Est.

A café, a restaurant and a museum

For Sylvian Valota, the mayor of the town, the establishment of which we find the first written traces around 1740 could even be "the oldest in Champagne-Ardenne".

The building, made of timber in the 18th century, was bought by the town hall.

But the cost of the project, subsidized in part by the department and the State, reached one million euros.

Both the exterior and the interior need to be renovated.

“It will be a café, a restaurant but also a La Poste contact point,” rejoices the elected official who would also like to set up a postal museum.

Work should begin before the second quarter of 2023 for an opening of the establishment at the end of 2024. The future boss of the café could be one of the 500 inhabitants of the town.
