In an interview with the JDD, the Minister for the Armed Forces Sébastien Lecornu does not rule out the departure of the French special forces based in Burkina Faso.

The French contingent based on the outskirts of Ouagadougou has played a key role in the fight against terrorism in the Sahel in recent years.

But the French presence has been increasingly decried by the authorities and the population of Burkina since the coup d'etat in early October, the second in less than a year.

The South African president is visiting London, where he has become the first head of state to be received by the new British monarch.

His visit comes as South Africa faces major protests.
