Pop superstar Taylor Swift has won the highest-profile music award at the American Music Awards, nabbing Artist of the Year at the world's largest fan-voted event.

The singer thanked those who voted for her for their great support after she has released four albums and re-released two of her previous albums in the past three years.

"I just can't express how incredible it is to me that I still do this, that you guys still care about it," Swift said onstage during the awards ceremony in Los Angeles.

Earlier, her album (Red) or “Red”, which was originally released in 2012, after she re-recorded and released it, won the Best Pop Album award.

And Swift, 32, is releasing new copies of previous albums after a dispute with the record company she was dealing with at the time.

"I can't express to you what the re-recorded albums mean to me, but I never expected or assumed they would mean anything to you," Swift added.

In the Artist of the Year category, Swift was able to seize the title despite competition from famous names, including Beyoncé, Harry Styles, The Weeknd, Drake, Adele and Bad Bunny.
