  The Caitaopo site is one of the excavation sites determined in the recent planning of the major archaeological China project of "Research on the Process of Civilization of Hongshan Society".

  The site is located in the north of Anqing Town, Songshan District, Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, close to the junction of Songshan District, Chifeng City and Ongniud Banner.

In July 2022, the Inner Mongolia Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology conducted archaeological exploration and excavation of the site.

  According to Sun Jinsong, director of the Inner Mongolia Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, during this archaeological exploration and excavation, a total area of ​​about 30,000 square meters was explored, and more than 60 suspected ruins were discovered.

Excavations were mainly concentrated in the south of the site. In addition, two house sites were cleared in the north, accumulatively uncovering an area of ​​more than 500 square meters. 12 house sites, 5 ash pits, and 1 stove site were excavated.

The unearthed relics include pottery, stone tools, bone tools, clam tools and so on.

  The archaeological department stated that the discovery of two large house sites at the Caitaopo site is of great significance for understanding the complete Hongshan society.

  Archaeological experts suggest that in the next step, the excavation of the Caitaopo site should strengthen regional cooperation and comprehensive multi-disciplinary application, so as to provide a basis for understanding the progress of social civilization in Hongshan.
