A temple in Minami-cho, Tokushima Prefecture has started a memorial service for those who died by throwing a bucket full of 1-yen coins.

"Throwing money memorial service" is a traditional event that 11 temples in Minami Town take turns every year.

This year's ceremony was held at Shogon-ji Temple, and visitors exchanged 5,000 or 3,000 yen into a bucket full of 1-yen coins before 8:00 a.m. next to the main hall.

In the main hall, there is a space that looks like a huge coin box surrounding the chief priest. I threw it in.

Subsequently, at the memorial service for those who died in the 33 years until this year, the names were read out one by one, and family members and other related people threw in a one-yen coin with both hands.

It is said that the louder the sound of throwing in the money, the better the memorial service will be, and the sound of a one-yen coin hitting the board resounded in the precincts.

A visitor in his 80s said, "I'm glad I was able to come to the memorial service for my grandparents, even though it came from afar."

A person in his 30s said, "It was a valuable experience for my son who came here for the first time."
