Between "The comforting bursts of joy" rising from the Place du Capitole and the symbol of an ice rink sacrificed on the altar of energy sobriety, Toulouse has decided.

It will be slippery.

“It's a perfectly assumed choice, which we made after studying in detail both its environmental impact and the service provider's commitments.

But which also takes into account the enthusiasm of Toulouse residents, of all ages, who are more and more numerous, each year, to come and try ice skating, ”explains this Friday Jean-Luc Moudenc (ex-LR) , the mayor of the Pink City.

To ward off a possible controversy, the town hall has therefore carefully examined “the eco-responsible guarantees” given by its service provider.

"The energy cost of this ice rink is 2 kWh / m², or 10 cents per skater, it consumes the energy of a year of use of a fridge-freezer", assures the Capitol.

Food glycol

In addition, the supplier will use, as last year, "food glycol" to ensure the permanent cooling of the track.

“This product is more respectful of the environment and has no harmful consequences in the event of a leak.

The glycol water, composed of 70% water, circulates in a closed circuit in the glacier carpet and is completely recycled”, explains the community.

The ephemeral ice rink which adjoins the Christmas market recorded 18,260 admissions in December 2021, 10,000 more than when it was first installed in 2016.
