After the murder of American travel blogger Gabby Petito, the estate administrators of the victim and perpetrator have agreed to pay three million dollars.

Petito was strangled and buried by her fiancé Brian Laundrie in the summer of 2021.

Shortly thereafter, Laundrie had committed suicide.

The 22-year-old's parents, Nichole Schmidt and Joseph Petito, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Laundrie's estate in Sarasota, Fla., district court in May.

Laundrie is responsible for Petito's death and owes damages.

Petito's parents' lawyers said Thursday after they settled with Christopher and Roberta Laundrie as administrators of their son's estate, the $3 million sum is more symbolic.

"No money in the world can make up for the loss of Gabby.

And Brian didn't have $3 million either," lawyer Patrick Reilly told WWSB.

If money does flow, it will go to the Missing Persons Assistance Foundation, which Petito's parents set up on behalf of their daughter.

Petito and Laundrie set out west from the east coast in a camper van in August 2021 to tour America's national parks.

They recorded their experiences in a video blog.

The last sign of life from their daughter reached Petito's parents a few days after an altercation between Laundrie and Petito.

In Utah, they had argued so violently that police officers had to mediate.

Laundrie eventually returned to Florida alone and refused to discuss Petito's fate.

Petito's remains were later found in Wyoming.

Before committing suicide, Laundrie confessed in a notebook to strangling Petito and burying her body.
