Faced with global warming, some professionals are forced to adapt.

This is particularly the case for ski resorts.

That of La Plagne, one of the busiest in the world, is forced to dismantle its ski lifts to install them 200 meters lower, reports France 3 Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

They are today at 3,250 meters above sea level.

The reason ?

Ground movements linked to the melting of permafrost.

“The line of the chairlift tends to shift,” explains the deputy general manager of the ski area located in Savoie.

Due to the low snowfall, its ski lift arrival station will therefore be dismantled this summer.

Three tracks in the area, which has 130, will be removed.

A 30 million euro project

“In total, we will return nearly 55 hectares to nature.

At a time when most resorts are expanding their area, we have decided to reduce it,” underlines the deputy director.

Installed lower down, the new arrival station will be embedded in the rock.

The equipment will have a total of 25 pylons, against 38, and should be more efficient.

The project represents a cost of 30 million euros.

It started two years ago and should be completed by winter 2023.
