Taylor Swift's popularity has overwhelmed tech.

The American distribution company Ticketmaster Entertainment had to interrupt advance ticket sales for Swift's tour "The Eras" on Thursday because the online portal was repeatedly paralyzed due to the large crowds.

Fans reported tickets that suddenly disappeared from the shopping cart.

Ticketmaster meanwhile referred to bot attacks and an unexpected number of followers of the singer who wanted to buy tickets without being required to register.

According to the company, 3.5 million interested parties had registered in advance or at least had themselves put on the waiting list.

However, the website has received around 3.5 billion clicks, four times more than at any other event since Ticketmaster was founded in 1976.

The Eras, Swift's first tour since 2018, begins in mid-March with the singer performing in Glendale, Arizona.

The last concert in America is scheduled for early August in Inglewood, California.

It is still unclear when the 32-year-old Grammy winner, who has been one of the most successful musicians in the United States for years with titles such as "Cardigan", "Shake It Off" and "Anti-Hero", will sing in Europe and Asia.
