During last year's House of Representatives election, Internal Affairs and Communications Minister Terada paid several thousand yen in labor costs to 11 local lawmakers and former lawmakers who took part in the election campaign, such as giving street speeches, in compensation for putting up posters. In principle, election campaigns are conducted without remuneration, and these payments are suspected of bribing campaign members in violation of the Public Offices Election Law. On the 18th, a university professor mailed a letter of accusation against Mr. Terada and the cashier to the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office.



Professor Hiroyuki Kamiwaki of Kobe Gakuin University, who sent the accusation letter, said, "I want you to do your best to investigate so that similar cases are not overlooked."
