After 7:00 pm on the 13th, the Uwajima Coast Guard was notified that a fishing boat had capsized off the coast of Seiyo City.

According to the Japan Coast Guard, the capsized vessel was the Manei Maru (4.9 tons), a purse seine fishing vessel belonging to the Ehime Prefecture Fisheries Cooperative Uwajima branch. From the beginning, it is said that it capsized when trying to evacuate to the port of Seiyo City.

There are three people on board, including the captain, and two of them were rescued by a fellow ship, but the captain, Hiroshi Hirai (80), is missing.

Of the two rescued crew members, one was taken to hospital with a minor injury to his right leg.

The crew member who was rescued said, ``It was hit by a transverse wave, and a large amount of seawater entered the ship, causing it to capsize.'' We are continuing to search for the missing captain by dispatching patrol boats.
