Since the pandemic, Kindai University has introduced a full-fledged "on-demand" class that distributes recorded lectures as videos.

This year, when we conducted a survey of students taking this class, 48.5% of the students used the double speed function.

On the other hand, there was little difference in grades between students who used the double-speed function and those who took regular classes.

It is said that the university is conscious of the fact that it can be viewed at double speed, and creates classes for distribution by using telops and diagrams in classes.

Associate Professor Yoji Ochi, Faculty of Informatics, Kindai University

We interviewed Chief Director Tadashi Tanaka, who is in charge of directing the NHK TV series "Maiagare!", which is currently airing.

Chief Director Tadashi Tanaka

“Honestly, I don’t know what to say in one word. In a drama, I want people to empathize with the characters and share the same time. I don't think you understand. I don't think you want people to watch the drama at double speed."

When

Hanahira Hayashiya is a rakugo storyteller.

After the COVID-19 outbreak, we started distributing commentary videos of rakugo on YouTube in earnest.

I make a lot of use of telops and try to get it into my head even at double speed.

Mr. Hanahira Hayashiya ``

I think there are things that can be played at double speed and things that shouldn't be done too much. For the important part, it might be good to double speed."

On the other hand, I don't put telops in my main business rakugo videos because I want them to listen at standard speed.

The most important thing for

a rakugo storyteller is the "pause".

Hanahira Hayashiya ``It's

the 'pause' that determines whether it's funny or not, so it's the most important part for a rakugo storyteller. I wonder if I can really enjoy it at double speed.”
