Seven people died on the roads of Calvados last October, according to figures revealed by the prefecture on Wednesday.

A terrible record.

In the past five years, the department had never experienced such a situation.

Last year, at the same period, the statistics reported two deaths on the roads of this territory.

Since the start of 2022, the number of injury accidents in Calvados has fallen by 12.5%) but the number of deaths has increased significantly (+16.7%) compared to 2021. Since last January, Calvados deplores 28 deaths on these roads.

The behavior of “irresponsible drivers”

“I am angry and I am upset by these figures and by the irresponsible behavior of some of us”, reacted the prefect of the department Thierry Mosimann in a press release spotted by BFMTV.

He denounced the behavior of “a minority of irresponsible drivers” who “continue to seriously endanger their fellow citizens”.

In response, Thierry Mosimann asked "the police to further strengthen their presence on the roads and to increase controls".

He also hopes for “collective awareness”.
