Glass is neutral to wine.

And when it comes to the closure, the winemaker can decide what best suits the contents: such as a cork, screwdriver or glass stopper.

But glass bottles also cause problems.

Their ecological balance leaves a lot to be desired.

The three-quarter liter container is not ideal for every occasion.

And these days, the containers have become scarce and expensive.

But if you look, you will find alternatives.

First of all: Many of the wines in the unusual containers taste very good.

A bottle of wine is impractical for many situations: too big, too heavy, fragile.

Accessories such as glasses and corkscrews are also required.

Beverage cans, especially with a manageable 250 milliliter content, make life easier.

And are almost indestructible.

Although the market for wine cans in Germany has so far been difficult to enter, a new supplier has dared to start.

"Djuce Wines" is the name of the company that wants to fill cans with a dozen wines from different countries and grape varieties.

Five are currently available.

While the Provence rosé tastes nice but a bit boring, the Riesling from the Palatinate with its stone fruit and lots of grapefruit aromas is quite appealing.

There is also a niche wine in niche containers, an orange wine from Austria.

The orange-colored and unfiltered wine tastes of tart fruit, slightly spicy, fresh and quite appealing.

Like the other two, it comes from the 2021 vintage. However, if you are also interested in the growing area or grape varieties, you have to research on the Internet.

The surface of the can is largely reserved for a brightly colored design.

And is aluminum sustainable?

In any case, the manufacturer promises a CO2 saving of 79 percent compared to glass bottles, calculated per liter.

Especially in summer, wine is often mixed with mineral water: tart, sparkling, thirst-quenching.

Of course you can also mix it yourself, but then there is an opened bottle of wine in the fridge.

In addition, not everyone likes to drag glasses, wine and soda bottles to the lake.

The ready-mixed wine spritzer has its appeal even at home.

Except for the alcohol, everything is like a soda: open the fridge, a bottle opener is enough, and a third of a liter tastes best straight from the bottle.

"Rheinmixe" is the name of the Riesling wine spritzer packaged in this way from the Loos winery on the Middle Rhine.

The dry version tastes slightly of stone fruit and lime zest, refreshes and is not too acidic despite the dry wine.

There is the spritzer, on which a mermaid is depicted, also with sweet Riesling.

Because of the sparkling water, it doesn't taste sweet, but not quite as crispy and fresh.

Containers for the barbecue party

The small containers fully exploit their strengths for a quick after-work wine or to take away, while the exact counterpart is needed for the barbecue party: the contents of several wine bottles in one container.

That's relatively cheaper.

In addition, there is no need to uncork individual bottles, and because of the larger volume, the wine stays cold longer.

There are several options here.
