Californian actor Sean Penn, known for his noble gestures, has temporarily given one of his Oscars to Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

During a visit to Kyiv, he presented the trophy to the President of Ukraine as a kind of good luck charm in the fight against Russia.

"It's just a silly symbolic thing, but knowing the Oscar is here with you makes me feel better and strong enough to fight," Penn told the 44-year-old in a shared video on Instagram on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Selenskyj thanked the Hollywood star with the Ukrainian medal for special achievements.

After the ceremony he announced that he would keep Penn's Oscar in Kyiv until the end of the war.

The actor, who won his first trophy from the American Film Academy in 2004 for "Mystic River" and was awarded a gold knight for the second time five years later for "Milk", traveled to Kyiv again a few days ago for filming.

Even before Vladimir Putin's attack in February, the 62-year-old had started work on a documentary about the Russian threat to Ukraine.
