In the government's budget for 2023, it appears that the free entrance to state museums will be scrapped for everyone over 18.

The change applies from the turn of the year.

- It is a hastily announced change that will cost money, these are changes that are not made overnight.

We see in the budget that there are no funds for the change, so the cost falls on the museums themselves, says Gunnar Ardelius, director general of the Confederation of Swedish Museums.

Cultural life also receives approximately one billion less in grants than last year.

The reduction is mainly due to the fact that the pandemic years meant extra support money, which is now disappearing.

But the Confederation of Swedish Museums believes that extra support is still needed - for restarting after the pandemic, but also as a result of inflation, increased electricity prices and increased interest rates.

How are the museums affected by today's announcement?
