Students who give up sitting in the canteen, contenting themselves with snacking on a sandwich prepared at home.

It was after hearing several testimonies of this type, coming from college management teams, that Philippe Dupouy (PS), the president of the Gers departmental council, decided to take an "exceptional measure".

Since the start of the Toussaint holidays on Monday, the price of meals in all the public colleges in the department is 1 euro.

For all, “without means test”.

The rate is valid until the end of the month and, according to a press release from the community, it represents savings for families of “2.25 euros per meal and per student”.

The measure will cost the departmental council 200,000 euros.

"I refuse that families are obliged to skip a meal in order to be able to pay the school catering bills", explains its president.
