The original musk deer is like a deer, with a small head, large eyes, long and erect ears, short tail, slender limbs, hind limbs longer than fore limbs, buttocks higher than shoulders when standing, male and female without horns, dark brown body, neck and chest Two white vertical stripes.
Male upper canine teeth are exposed, forming fangs, which can secrete musk.
The musk deer was included in the 2015 Red List of Threatened Species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
After a lapse of 9 years, the first-class protected wild musk deer was discovered again in Dongning, Heilongjiang.

The original musk deer comes into estrus from October to January of the following year, and peaks in November and December. Generally, the activities are more frequent in the morning and evening.

The musk deer has relatively fixed activities, foraging routes leading to the habitat, and a relatively fixed range of activities, even the position of defecation is fixed, and usually only moves in the designated area, and has strong nostalgia for the habitat.
