Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, said that the spirit of "tolerance, empathy and dialogue" is a spirit that we are always inspired by the immortal vision of the founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and this spirit continued under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, who is keen to encourage all citizens of the country to know and understand others, adding:“His Highness directed us to the importance of dealing with those who differ from us in culture, religion and language, and to their respect and appreciation, as His Highness the President of the State was keen to remind us all that we do not live on an isolated island, in a generous invitation from him to all for cooperation, communication and dialogue with everyone, We can add that we should not live and work in the Emirates in isolation from each other, due to indifference, fear, ignorance or misunderstanding. Therefore, in the Emirates, we have known each other, understood our cultural difference, and worked together based on our firm belief that the diversity that distinguishes us. In the UAE, it is the path to our unity if we understand it.”

Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan stressed, in his speech yesterday, during the opening of the activities of the second edition of the “Ishraqat” festival, which is organized by the ministry in cooperation with 18 local and international organizations and institutions over a period of three days, at the Cultural Complex in Abu Dhabi under the slogan “Tolerance enriches knowledge.” That this annual festival will continue to celebrate the rich heritage of tolerance and coexistence in the UAE, and will also continue to celebrate its success in linking tolerance and coexistence with the lives of its citizens and residents on its land, and it is also a celebration of knowledge, happiness, friendships and good intentions that are strengthened through the activities of the festival, explaining that the festival is an invitation For all learners and those interested in knowledge, young and old, to interact with their community and appreciate their culture and other cultures that contribute to the global community in the UAE.

Speakers at the festival’s sessions, which was attended by more than 90 prominent international thinkers, creators and influencers, and the pioneers at the international and regional levels, stressed the importance of focusing on the new generations to instill the values ​​of tolerance, cooperation and positivity in them, and directing them to participate effectively and positively in building their community.

The session, which was presented by Sheikh Dr. Abdulaziz bin Ali bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, nicknamed "The Green Sheikh", who is an ambassador for the earth and for spreading peace worldwide, witnessed a great interaction from school students.

In the session, Sheikh Al-Akhdar reviewed the positive personality building factors, most notably the interdependence and cohesion with society, and the acquisition of healthy habits through repetition, which contributes to protecting the environment and preserving natural resources.

He called on the audience to work on discovering themselves and identifying a goal that they seek to achieve during their lives, in order to form a positive addition to society.

The session, which was presented by the football star and player of the UAE national team and Al Wahda Sports Club, Captain Ismail Matar, witnessed a large presence and greater interaction. In his speech, Matar touched on fair play, tolerance and team spirit.

He also dealt with aspects of his personal experience, his vision of sports fanaticism and how to confront it, the struggle for victory and defeat, cups and championships, and as a player and a great star, he gave many tips to generations of sports practitioners and fans.

Various activities

The festival’s activities continue throughout the day and tomorrow, and are distributed between the Cultural Foundation, the Sorbonne University in Abu Dhabi and New York University Abu Dhabi, including the session of the Nigerian writer and novelist Wole Soyinka, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, and the symposium of the Arab thinker Rashid Al-Khayoun entitled “Abu Dhabi Reconciles Mind and Wealth”, and a session by writer and publisher Jamal Al-Shehhi, in which he talks about tolerance in children's literature, and other sessions.
